Lifeguarding (r. 06) Instructor Update
CRPA will be offering a group orientation to the new Red Cross Lifeguarding
program for current Lifeguarding Instructors.
The orientation will meet be held from 5:15-7:00pm. The update will include
the new books and CD-ROM's, and will orient you to all the new materials.
All current instructors have to update by Dec. 2007.

5:00 PM Registration
5:10 PM Opening Remarks
5:15-6:00 First Session - choose between the following topics:
1. The New Guard Experience” helpful hints for the novice lifeguard.
This session gives you “everything you need to know”, but
were never told.
2. The New HEAD GUARD Experience. This session is for those who will be
supervising other lifeguards for the first time.
3. Spice Up Your Swim Lessons with Games and Contests. If you are having
fun your students will learn better.
4. Blood Bourne pathogens and RWI’s; what you should know!
6:00 – 6:05 change rooms
6:05 – 6:50 Second Sessions - choose between the following topics:
1. Sun Safety; a tan is not a sign of health! Learn what you can do to
prevent getting skin cancer.
2. Dealing with uncooperative Patrons
3. The New Red Cross programs. American Red Cross changes and updates
will be explained.
4. Beach life guarding; surveillance at a beach is different than at a
pool.
6:50- 6:55 change rooms
6:55 – 7:40 Third session - choose from the following:
1. Lifeguard Assertiveness
2. Legal Considerations, “Do you know the right thing to do?”
3. First Aid Jeopardy
4. Using a backboard on land
7:40 – 7:50 PM Closing Remarks.
7:50 – 8:00 PM PIZZA: Please stay and network with lifeguards
from other towns. Share your experiences and learn from others.
