Continuing Education Units or CEU's are a professional's dedication to
further study and enhancement of knowledge in the field of recreation.
Courses can be range from training provided by your town, to first aid
courses, to the quality quarterly education classes offered through CRPA
at its state conference, and through out the year. CEU's are attained
to support professional certification.
The Recertification process is essential to ensure continued professional development for those certified as parks and recreation professionals. Once certification is awarded, all CPRP's must recertify every two years by earning 2.0 CEUs. 0.1 CEU is typically granted for every 1 hour in training.
Courses that are sponsored by CRPA are approved through the professional development
board for CEU's. The cost for obtaining the CEU's is built into the cost
of attending the CEU class.
If you attend another non CRPA event and would like to see if it qualifies
for CEU's you can submit a peition form to NRPA Petition Form for CEU's
Have you served on many boards and committees? Have you written an article
for CRPA? Have you written a book? There are many professional service
experiences that will grant you the opportunity to gain CEU's. Fill out
the Professional Service Experience Form and submit a $10 review fee to
obtain your CEU's. CEU's from this category can not make up more than
0.5 CEU's toward your 2.0 CEU's for recertification for the Park and Recreation
Professional Certification. Professional Service/Experience

Would you like to run a session that would have CEU's attached to it?
Organizations/Towns and other groups wishing to partner with CRPA to have
a CEU class can do so by filling out the CEU Endorsement form. The guidelines
for a CEU class are attached. The professional development board requires
at least 6 weeks prior notice to review an endorsement request. CEU Program Endorsement

What is a CEU?
One Continuing Education Unit (CEU) is participation in an organized continuing education experience under responsible sponsorship, capable direction, and qualified instruction. Certificants are all required to earn 2.0 CEUs during each two-year certification period.
WARNING: Don't confuse continuing education units with continuing education credits (CEC), or contact hours. A CEC is a different form of measurement and is accepted by other certification bodies. Contact hours may not meet CEU standards. If you have obtained CEC credits please download a CEU petition to convert to CEU’s here.
How do I earn CEUs?
1. By attending conferences and events, or any other educational conference or event that offers CEUs to its participants.
3. By using college credit. Academic credits can be transferred to CEU equivalents by taking the total number of classroom instructional hours and dividing by ten. For example, a 3 credit course that meets once per week for three hours for 15 weeks equals 45 hours of classroom instructional time. Divide 45 by 10 to achieve the 4.5 CEU equivalents.
4. By substituting 0.5 CEUs for Professional Experience Points (PSE). Professional Service Points can be earned by serving as a Committee Chair, speaking at a conference, serving as an accreditation visitor, and through many other services you may provide to the parks and recreation profession. For more information about the PSE program click here Professional Service/Experience
Form
5. By petitioning for CEU equivalency. If you, as an individual, are planning to attend an educational program that does not offer CEUs, you may request that CEU equivalents be awarded to you within 30 days of attending the seminar. You must request CEU equivalents from the office that maintains your certification. Individuals certified through the national office can download a petition here. Petition Form for CEU's
Who keeps track of my CEUs?
You are responsible for keeping track of your CEUs and for providing documentation of them when applying for renewal. CT Recreation and Park Association DOES track our Member's CEU's for them, for any CRPA training, and any other training in which the members send the original transcript of attendance and number of CEU's. NRPA headquarters does not track CEUs for the certificants it administers.
What if I let my certification expire?
NRPA now offers a re-entry option to certificants whose certification has not been expired for more than a consecutive, 2-year period. In this case, the expired certificant would be eligible to apply to take the exam without having to submit verification of education and experience. Expired certificants wishing to use this re-entry option must successfully pass the exam prior to the end of the 2-year expired period. A re-entry form can be downloaded here.
