A Friendly Face
Please let me take a moment to tell you a little bit about myself. First off, I am a lively spirited Canadian from Ottawa (our nation’s capital, eh!) who feels right at home here in Connecticut meeting all sorts of new friendly people as I go “out and about”!

Like most everyone, I’ve been involved in recreational activities all my life such as curling (Canadian winter sport), quilting, scrap booking, reading and international travel. I didn’t discover my love for the field as a career choice until I was doing my undergraduate degree at Houghton College in upstate NY.

It was there that I was exposed to the discipline of Therapeutic Recreation and realized that I could actually make a livelihood in the field and have fun at the same time! I fell in love with the classes and the wide range of possibilities that a recreation vocation could hold for me. I knew by the close of my senior year that I wanted to be in the profession and to develop a deeper understanding of its unique calling in my life. My passion and drive for the recreation vocation has continued to grow from there.

I went to Springfield College, in Springfield, Massachusetts to complete my Masters of Science in Therapeutic Recreation Management. I was exposed to more theories, models, concepts and practices than I thought could ever be possible! I have been keenly impressed by the profession's unique vibrancy and richness and its ability to enhance people’s quality of life. Along that line of enquiry, I conducted a research study on Older Adult Volunteerism and It’s Relationship to Life Satisfaction. I learned a lot about myself from my formal educational experiences and going through the rigorous “hoops” of a thesis. I believe that combined with my personal passion for the field and my dedication to living out the fundamentals that our profession is based on, I will be able to offer my skills and support in a way that is meaningful and relevant to you. I envision CRPA growing to be a stronger support network through professional development and resources in order to make your job easier. I am excited about what the future has to offer all of us!
